Listening to the Voice Within (Your greatest resource)

Published on December 15, 2011 by admin

Your life is exactly what you make it – that’s an awesome responsibility!  And every “defining moment” is your opportunity to re-choose.

Do you listen to your “little voice”?  Have you ever taken a risk or changed the direction of your life because you got the gut punch of a new awareness?  Have you ever had the dream you were striving for suddenly seem empty, and had that dream replaced with a new and surprising inspiration?    You have all that you need, right now, to make your life the way you dream it to be…and if you don’t think you have a dream, then you’re refusing to allow it into your consciousness!

There are big dreams…there are small dreams…but every dream is your birthright as a human being on this planet.  That’s what separates us from animals, and to squelch your creativity and block your dreams is unnatural and unhealthy.  Not only that, it’s an affront to the Universe to withhold your contribution as a unique and authentic being expressing your greatest capacity.  If you’d like to debate this point, please let’s talk.

If you’d like to learn to tap into your inner wisdom and that awesome and unlimited creative energy that you are, here are some of the top tips that are easily incorporated into your daily routines:

  • Sit still and be with yourself.  Give yourself at least 5 minutes a day, preferable 20 minutes, to simply sit with yourself, and listen to your body’s workings.  Pay attention to your breath:  the depth and rhythm of your breath – you’re breathing!  You’re alive!  No matter what else is going on in the world around you, you are breathing, and you are alive.  Experience your world with all five senses:  smell the air…taste the warmth in your mouth…listen to the cacophony of sounds swirling around you…see the patterns and colors surrounding you…notice how gravity is holding your body in the place you are resting.  Cultivate your ability to shift into this “sitting” so that you become able to tap into this quiet place whenever you are stressed, taking a risk, seeking a solution…or simply wanting to renew your energy.  Believe me; it’s much better than a candy bar!
  • Take care of your physical body.  Feed yourself healthy meals in adequate portions, on a regular basis, which are satisfying, nourishing and beautiful…and share meal time with others when you can, as we are really social animals.  Work your body with exercise that is fun, pleasurable and strenuous so that you keep your body in excellent working condition…and share some exercise activities with a companion so that you deepen relationships at the same time.  Restful sleep is critical to all systems working together in harmony – so sleep the number of hours your body needs, on a regular basis.  These three basic elements help you operate at peak performance at all times.
  • Tap into your creativity.  Regardless of what you do for work, you are designing a life!  Keep your creative juices flowing!  Continue to learn, whatever you are interested in, or need to know to keep your competitive edge, and make that effort regularly.  Immerse yourself into creativity, whether you personally participate in some creative endeavor (e.g. cooking, drawing, painting, building something, writing, etc.), or surround yourself with others’ artistic output (e.g. museums, galleries, gardens, music, boutiques, etc.).

These simple steps prepare you for the flow of your greatest resource:   your own truth.

As Shakespeare said, “To thine own self be true” and it’s been my personal experience, and my experience with clients that this is really a huge challenge.  But it’s this honesty and your ability to tap into your truth and creativity that ensures living a life worth living, and continuing to grow into the person you like, are proud of, and contribute to your world in the most fulfilling and authentic way.

Make your life journey the most creative adventure filled with all you desire, starting right now…and enjoy every moment.  It starts by listening to your inner voice – your greatest resource.
